Use Your Unused Freebies/Samples To Help Others

Ever ask "Why sign up for a free sample of something I don't even use?" or "Why use a coupon to get something for free if I am not ever going to use it or eat it?" I have an answer why you should. You can use these items as donations to help others.

Here are some ideas:

- Donate your free food items to your local food bank.

- Donate free samples such as toiletries and personal care items to local battered women's shelters (especially if they are specifically for women), homeless shelters, or to groups organizing military care packages.

- Donate to the Shepherd Bags Ministry of Evangelistic International Ministries. I know they are currently collecting in Arkansas. This year, these bags which will include the message of the Gospel will be taken into kindergarten schools in Honduras. Some of the things they are collecting that you may have received free samples of or gotten free after coupons include travel size toothpaste, toothbrushes, and travel size soap.

Walmart's New Corporate Coupon Policy

Walmart has released a new corporate coupon policy. Check it out and print it to take with you just in case you have trouble with the cashiers honoring your coupons.

These are the two big changes I see:

Coupons may exceed the price of the item. Change may be given or applied toward the cost of the basket purchase.

They will now accept checkout coupons (also called "Catalinas") that are printed at their competitors' registers, have "Manufacturer Coupon" with specific requirements printed on them, a valid remit address for the manufacturer, valid expiration date, and a scannable bar code.

Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent As Low As $1.74 at Walgreens

Use this Smartsource coupon for $1.25/1 Arm & Hammer Laundry detergent along with the Arm & Hammer in-ad coupon in this week's Walgreens salespaper to get the detergent for just $1.74. The in-ad coupon is only valid through March 5.  Walgreens policy is that you have to have the same number of total items or more versus total coupons, so if the detergent is all that you are buying, pick up a Laffy Taffy by the register for $0.15 to avoid the register beeping.

FYI - Usually on these private sale sites, shipping can sometimes take up to a month, so keep that in mind if you ordering something as a gift and need it by a specific date.

Fred's Shopping

Many of you may not know that Fred's doubles coupons up to $0.70 on Saturdays. I am unsure whether they accept Internet coupons or not; you will have to ask your individual store about that. Another great thing about Fred's (or at least mine does this) is that unlike Wal-mart or grocery stores that charge tax on your pre-coupon total, Fred's charges tax on the after-coupon total.

I got the three items in the picture below at Fred's for only $1.10 after coupons.

Keep in mind when you are doing these deals that Fred's only doubles the first coupon of like coupons in the same transaction, so if you have more than one coupon for a particular product, you might want to split your items into more than one transaction.
